Helping Our
Neighbors
A great big thank you
is being sent out from the SGA to all of the people who helped us make our food
and coat drive such a success! With your contributions, we were able to
help 8 families during the holiday season
Supporting Our
Troops
The
SGA is collecting names and addresses of soldiers who are deployed
overseas. It is our goal to have each class adopt a soldier and his/her
unit. If you know of anyone who is deployed, please pass that information
along to the SGA. We need the soldier's name, unit, and mailing address.
Elections
Morganton Road School's Student Government Association held its 2008-2009 elections
in September. Each grade level voted for two students to represent their classes in SGA.
Third through fifth grade students also voted for students to hold the offices of
president, vice president, and secretary/treasurer.
To campaign for an SGA office, candidates qualified according to the following guidelines:
-
Follow class, school, and bus rules.
-
Be trustworthy.
-
Be dependable.
-
Be devoted to hard work.
-
Maintain at least a "C" average in all classes.
-
Attend all meetings.
In the week before the election, Morganton Road
School was adorned with bright posters and busy with creative campaigning by SGA
candidates. On the day of the election, while kindergarten, first, and second grade
students gave speeches in their classrooms, candidates for secretary, vice-
president, and president anxiously prepared in the cafeteria for the Election Day
assembly. Candidates were responsible for delivering a three to five minute
speech to an audience of third, fourth, and fifth grade students and teachers.
The students were prepared
and poised the morning of the election and delivered their prepared speeches before the
assembly of students.
After the speeches, students
voted and the ballots
were tallied. Please see below the results of this year's election:
