Character Education

Each month a Morganton Road student is selected by his or her teacher as a "Shining Star", an outstanding representative of the character  trait being featured.  The names of students in each class are presented to the School Improvement Team that then selects two students from the school to represent Morganton Road in the county level competition.

RESPECT

Patrell continually shows his classmates what it means to be a "good first grader."  He always encourages his friends to do their best.  He treats his peers with respect and dignity in all situations, he works well in a group, and he helps to resolve problems in the classroom.  Moreover, Patrell is a good listener and an active participant.
Patrell was chosen by his classmates as a student who exemplifies the character trait of "respect" after only a few weeks of school  because of his desire to treat his peers with respect and dignity.  Patrell and respect go hand in hand this year at Morganton Road School.

Olivia is a loving and kind fourth grade student who displays respect to all in her environment.  She is soft-spoken and participates in group activities.  Respect is reflected in Olivia's character as she demonstrates turn-taking and sharing with great consistency.  She greets others politely upon entering a new setting and responds appropriately to her peers and adults.  She takes good care of her property and that of others, exhibits great care and concern, and thinks of others unselfishly.
Olivia is a genuine delight to have in class as she respects class rules, abides by expected regulations, and promotes a peaceful atmosphere.  Respect is evidenced in her eye contact, manner of speech, concern for others, participation in class, and promotion of good will.  She is truly my "Shining Star", and our class is a better place because she arrives daily with the best attitude and respect for all.
